A County Durham home could see the inclusion of a café on the site after plans have been submitted.

The property, found on Oxford Terrace, Bowburn, Durham, is a typical house but could have part of it converted into a café.

Plans for the proposal are keen to point out that the café would be “very small in character” and found on the ground floor of the building.

No additional extensions will be required as part of the proposal with plans stating they want to “preserve the character of the property.”

The business would be a one-person business and would not be restricted to business hours.

According to plans the café would be open from 10am to 4pm with days often changing.

Evening events could become part of the business and these could run between 6pm and 9pm ensuring that traffic will not be coming in and out of the house past 10pm.

The planning statement continues to argue: “I would like to point out that the COOP cross the road from us is open until 10pm and we believe that the locals find it acceptable and useful.

“The evening events will be food focussed with a theme. The theme will vary. We might offer set menu for the evening, but customers might engage in board game playing, discussions on foraging, or experiences such as crystal healing for example.”

The business will bake artisan bread and cater for all dietary requirements and feel it will be “directly beneficial to the community directly.”
