Dozens of Middlesbrough fans have been slapped with £70 fines after a crackdown on illegal parking around the Riverside during Saturday (October 15)’s home game.

More than 70 cars were hit with penalty notices by council parking wardens following Boro’s latest home game against Blackburn at the weekend.

Seventy-six drivers were handed fines worth more than £5,300 in total.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said: “The number of illegally and dangerously parked cars has reduced, but there are still too many and we will continue to take enforcement action to stamp out the problem.

“Such parking is completely unnecessary, is a danger to the public and is completely unacceptable.

“We would appeal again to supporters heading to the stadium to make use of one of Middlesbrough’s many public car parks or travel on public transport and avoid causing a danger to fellow match-goers.”

The council had previously handed out warning notices to poor parkers but have swapped to handing out penalty charge notices (PCNs) as part of calls for supporters to be more considerate in their parking.
