A man has died after falling from a North East car park, police have this afternoon confirmed.

Emergency services attended Eldon Square car park, where a large presence of police and ambulance services were present shortly after midday on Wednesday.

This afternoon, Northumbria Police have confirmed a man had died after falling from the multi-storey car park on Percy Street in Newcastle.

Emergency services pronounced the man dead at the scene, they later said.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12pm, today (Wednesday), we received a report a man had fallen from a multi-storey car park on Percy Street, Newcastle.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance but the man has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing however at this early stage, we do not believe there to be any third party involvement.”

According to AA road maps, the B1307 near Percy Street has been blocked off due to the emergency, however the street remains open to traffic.

The entrance/exit to the car park is also closed off.

There is a large amount of congestion, due to the large number of emergency service vehicles present.
