People looking forward to next month’s Darlington fireworks extravaganza in South Park can now book their places - but they are being urged to be quick.

The huge event is being held on November 5 and promises a firework display, light show, street food stalls, and fairground attractions for all the family.

The Northern Echo:

It will be the first time in 11 years that the bonfire night event will be held in Darlington.

Entry to the display will be free, but anyone wishing to attend will need to collect a wristband to get into the park, which are available from today.

Wristbands can be collected from The Dolphin Centre, Head of Steam Darlington Railway Museum, Cockerton Library and Firthmoor Community Centre, but residents are being urged to be quick as it is understood demand is already extremly high.

To claim your wristbands, residents areurged to be prepared to show a utility bill (either paper or electronic) showing proof of address at your chosen collection point.

You must be aged 16 or over to collect the wristbands – the event itself is suitable for all ages and everyone attending must wear one on the night.

Your name, phone number and email address will also be collected so relevant information about the event may be shared with you. Councill officials say your details will not be shared with anyone else.

Speaking last week, Councillor Jonathan Dulston, Leader of Darlington Borough Council, said: “The fireworks promises to be a night to remember, with something for everyone.

“We’ve got our Fantasy Fireworks display, a quieter show that’s ideal for children or those who need a more relaxed experience.

“Then later on we’ll have our Licence to Thrill show lighting up the night sky with a James Bond-inspired explosion of light, sound and colour.

“And that’s not all – you can expect a glittering line-up of things to see and do throughout the evening, including street food stalls, fairground rides and fire and light performers.

“So don’t delay in getting your wristbands when the collection period opens next week!”
