The school of a 14-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed has released a further tribute to a "much loved and treasured" student.

The headteacher of Cardinal Hume Catholic School in Gateshead paid further tributes and said the whole school had been left shaken by the death of Tomasz Oleszak.

Tomasz, also from Gateshead, died in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning after an alleged assault in Whitehills Nature Park.

Last night, Mr Brendan Robson offered his and the school's sympathy and support to Tomasz' friends and family, and said he will be sorely missed.

The Northern Echo:

“Cardinal Hume Catholic School community is deeply saddened and shocked by the death of Tomasz Oleszak following the incident in the local area on Monday evening," Mr Robson said.

“No parent, no family, no friend, no school, no community should have to deal with such news and understandably we are all shaken by this tragic event.

When paying tribute to Tomasz, he said: “As a much loved and treasured pupil, Tomasz was a dedicated and committed young man who was the life and soul of his friendship group.

“Tomasz was charismatic and engaging, always displaying a great sense of humour.

“He was a loyal friend who others could turn to. As a talented footballer and wonderful team player he has been described by his friends as “someone you'd always want to have on your team”.

"The staff will remember his warmth, energy and positive personality.

“He will be sorely missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

“In the challenging times ahead, our priority is to do everything we can to care for and support Tomasz’s family, our students, and staff, who are understandably struggling to process this tragic event.”

The Northern Echo:

Northumbria Police confirmed it had been made aware of a teenager who had been seriously injured in the Aycliffe Crescent area of the Springwell Estate at 8pm.

After they attended, they found Tomasz, who had suffered an injury consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

He was taken to hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly passed away.

This comes after the school issued its first statement on Tomasz' passing yesterday.

Yesterday morning, the Aycliffe Crescent community paid tribute to him, laying flowers, cards, stuffed animals - and even balloons at the entrance of the park.

The Northern Echo:

On Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 13-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
