The RNLI has issued a warning to swimmers after rescuing two teenagers off the coast North East coast this week.

On Thursday evening at 6.34pm, Redcar RNLI launched their D class lifeboat to assist in the rescue of two teenagers who were reported to be in trouble in the sea near to Cliffe House, Marske by the Sea.

As the lifeboat approached the location the volunteer crew spotted one of the teenagers very quickly and proceeded to rescue him and administer casualty care.

Almost immediately the second teenager was spotted close by, and the crew once again retrieved the casualty safely to the lifeboat.

It was estimated the teenagers may have been in the water for 30 minutes and both were very cold.

After assessment of both of the casualtys' conditions the lifeboat crew decided to return them to Redcar Lifeboat Station where they were met by an Ambulance and Paramedics.

Mike Picknett, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Redcar RNLI said: “Once again the professionalism of our volunteer crew has resulted in the rescue of two teenagers who were being swept out to sea.

“If you are going into the sea, always try to use a lifeguarded beach. If you get into difficulties raise your hand and shout loudly for help and If you are getting tired then lean back, extend your arms and legs and float. Above all stay calm and don’t panic.

“‘If you see someone who you think may be in trouble in the water call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard, you might just help to save a life.”
