An investigation has been launched after a rural post office had its windows smashed and cash and stamps were stolen in a midnight burglary.

Thieves entered Dales Stores Post Office in Birstwith in Nidderdale at nine minutes past midnight on Friday, August 5.

They proceeded to smash on of the windows and stole cash and a large amount of stamps with a high value.

Officers have asked members of the public to get in touch  if they have information on the incident, saw anything suspicious or can identify the person recorded on the CCTV.

Police are also looking for members of the public who have dashcam footage of vehicles in the area at the time of the burglary.
