A group of problem motorcyclists that terrorised other motorists and residents over the weekend and caused “utter mayhem” have been branded “morons”, as police have confirmed that they are looking to stamp down on the ongoing issue.

On Saturday (August 6) and Sunday (August 7), several reports of off-road bikers riding dangerously in Middlesbrough and Redcar were spotted driving over pavements, pulling wheelies, and flouting road laws, as frustrated residents took to social media.

According to residents on Ormesby Road in Middlesbrough, the situation with off-road bikers isn’t “unique” after some people living in the area saying that they have been constantly bothered by the motorcyclists.

Taking to social media, one resident said: “This is out of order, although a small group goes down Ormesby Road most evenings with no helmets and driving dangerously.

“Nothing is ever done. Driving according to rules to protect them and others I have no objection to.

“Can Cleveland Police let us know what they need the public to do so before a serious accident occurs.”

Residents aren’t the only ones that have criticised the behaviour of off-road bikers over the weekend, as Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston has called the individuals involved “morons”, while claiming that the town is being “terrorised” by this driving.

On his official Twitter account, Mr Preston has shared images of some of the bikers, while saying: “We Need Arrests

“Moron bikers terrorised decent people today - putting lives at risk.

“They rode all over town causing mayhem, people will know those responsible and we need people’s help to track them down.

“If you know anyone involved, please email me: mayor@middlesbrough.gov.uk.”

In the aftermath of the incident, Cleveland Police has moved to assure residents that they are doing something about the ongoing issues surrounding off-road bikers.

They said over the weekend: “Police are aware of a large group of people riding off-road bikes after several reports of antisocial driving in both Middlesbrough and Redcar.

“Officers are in attendance and will take appropriate action wherever possible.

“Anyone with information regarding the identity of those riding off-road bikes illegally or anyone who may be storing off-road bikes is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101.”
