Police have revealed why armed officers were spotted in a Darlington street in the early hours of this morning.

Two police cars and two police vans were seen on Borough Road, near the town centre, by members of the public around midnight.

Meanwhile, a fire engine had also been spotted by residents in the area at around the same time.

Now, in a statement, Durham Police said: “Police were called to an address in Borough Road, Darlington, at around 1am this morning over a concern for welfare.

“Whilst in attendance, officers arrested the occupant and enquiries are ongoing.”
