Darlington Borough Council is encouraging residents, schools, businesses, and local groups from across the town to nominate someone they think deserves recognition at this year’s Stronger Community Awards.

The annual awards aim to recognise the exceptional people in our communities including volunteers, students and young people, and those responsible for outstanding business contribution, supporting the environment and bringing success to the town.

Nominations for the 14 categories are now open and can be completed at www.darlington.gov.uk/strongercommunitiesawards.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, September 23 2022.

Those shortlisted will be invited to an evening of pride, celebration and entertainment at the awards ceremony on November 11 at the Dolphin Centre where an unsuspecting group or individual will also receive the Stronger Communities Special Award.

Winner of last year’s Stronger Communities Special award, Sarah Rose, chair of Skerne Park Academy Local governing body said: “Winning the Stronger Communities Special Award for me was a huge surprise and an honour.

“Since I received the award, I have taken it back to our local community and everyone who volunteers at Skerne Park Community Partnership has had their photo taken with it, including our children. It is their award too as we are a team. It is proudly displayed there.

Seth Pearson, director of Darlington Partnerships, said: “There is so much to celebrate in Darlington and these awards are designed to bring together all those who enrich the local community. We are delighted to welcome The Banks Group as the principal sponsor of this event.

“We want to hear about people, young and old, who are out there making a difference in all kinds of spheres and who might otherwise go unrecognised. This is all about putting the stars of Darlington on a pedestal so please send in your nominations.”
