An investigation is underway after a street fight involving men with weapons is alleged to have broken out in the early hours of the morning.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident in Middlesbrough, which led to one man being taken to hospital with a severe hand injury.

Police were called to the scene in Bishop Street at about 1.40am today (Friday, July 1) to reports of men fighting in the street with weapons.

It was reported the group were involved in altercation involving bladed weapons before making off in a vehicle.

One male suffered a severe injury to his hand and was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

Five males have been arrested in connection with the incident and they remain in police custody at this time.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Investigating officers believe that this incident is isolated and neighbourhood officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the local area.”
