Armed police have been spotted patrolling the streets of a North East town near to where a drive-by incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday (June 29) morning that saw a pub get shot at.

Officers from Cleveland Police received a report of a ‘firearms discharge’ at The Bank Public House on Norton High Street around 12.30am.

The incident happened when two suspects riding a motorbike and both wearing helmets attended the premises and discharged a firearm, before making off on the motorbike along Norton High Street towards Norton Road.

The premises was closed at the time of the incident, and no one was inside.

Enquiries are ongoing and there have been no arrests at this time.

A police cordon was in place on Wednesday (June 29) but was lifted in the early afternoon.

In the aftermath of the dramatic incident, armed police have been seen patrolling Trent Street in Stockton; 0.8 miles from where the gun incident occurred.

Police are unable to say at this stage if the two incidents are related. 

The Northern Echo has contacted Cleveland Police for further comment.

The police force is appealing to any witnesses, anyone with information or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from around the High Street and Norton Road around the time of the incident to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 111861.
