Forensic police officers remain at the scene following a shooting incident at a North East pub on Wednesday (June 29) – that has seen investigators combing the scene for evidence.

Officers were seen inside and outside The Bank Public House throughout the morning – which included them removing a window and picking shards of glass from the floor.

Where was the incident?

The incident happened at The Bank Public House on Norton High Street.

What happened?

Two suspects riding a motorbike and both wearing helmets attended the pub and discharged a firearm, before making off on the motorbike in a southerly direction along Norton High Street towards Norton Road.

When was the incident?

It happened around 12:30am this morning on Wednesday (June 29).

Has there been any arrests?

Enquiries are ongoing and there have been no arrests currently, according to Cleveland Police.

Was anyone injured in the incident?

The premises was closed at the time of the incident, and no one was inside.

What happens if anyone saw anything?

Detectives are appealing to any witnesses, anyone with information or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from around the High Street and Norton Road around the time of the incident to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 111861.

What has been happening this morning?

Forensic teams have been collecting evidence at the scene, including removing shards of glass and parts of the door that had been hit by bullets.

Is the cordon still in place?

No – the cordon has been lifted, but the police remain at the scene.

Has the business itself said anything?

Yes – it has issued a statement an hour ago, saying: “Dear customers, unfortunately, last night an incident occurred where damage was inflicted to the outside of the pub. The incident took place after we were closed and luckily no one was in the building or hurt.

“We have reopened.

“We would like to note that it was not a matter relating to any staff, the owner, or the business itself. The matter is being dealt with by the appropriate authorities.”
