A council waste collection van has been spotted down a ditch in a Darlington park this week.

The van reportedly got itself into the tricky situation while it was emptying the dog waste bin at the top of the hill, in the park in the Mowden area of Darlington on Tuesday (June 21).

In images posted in the 'You know you're from Darlo when' Facebook group and seen by The Northern Echo, the van, clearly branded with the Darlington Borough Council logo, can be seen lodged in the trees after it had gone careering down the hill.

It is not clear how the van ended up in the foliage.

Darlington Council has now launched an investigation to get to the bottom of the what happened.

The van had been rescued by Wednesday (June 22) morning when just tyre tracks remained as evidence of the incident.

It is not known how the van was recovered from the ditch.

A council spokesperson told The Northern Echo: “We are aware of the incident and will carry out a full investigation to find out what happened.”
