TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died following an alleged incident on Friday afternoon.

A murder probe was launched following the death of a 59-year-old man in Hartlepool.

Police have now confirmed the identity of the man who died as Mark Davison, from Easington, in east Durham.

He was involved in an incident in York Road, Hartlepool on Friday, May 27.

His family has released a statement paying tribute to the father and grandfather.

Describing him as a “larger than life character”, they said: “Mark was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed. He is in the thoughts and prayers of his family and friends in the UK and in Gambia.”

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time."

"Following the incident, emergency services were called to assist Mr Davison but he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

"A man and woman, both aged in their forties, were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.

"The man has been bailed whilst enquiries continue, and the woman has been released under investigation whilst enquiries are ongoing.
