TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man.

Cleveland Police were called to the junction of York Road and Gainford Street, in Hartlepool, on Friday at about 2.10pm.

A 59-year-old man was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man, aged in his 40s, and a woman, also in her 40s, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man has been bailed while the woman has been released under investigation while inquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson from Cleveland Police added: "The family of the deceased man are being supported by specially trained officers and our thoughts remain with them at this very difficult time."

Officers have launched an appeal for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage of an altercation involving the occupants of two vehicles – a black Vauxhall Mokka and a silver Hyundai Ioniq - to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 090023.
