A MAN was taken to hospital after being shot in the leg with an air rifle.

The 28-year-old man was injured in an incident near the cemetery in Raby Road, Hartlepool, at the weekend.

It is thought to have happened late on Saturday into the early hours of Sunday. 

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They would also like to see any CCTV or dash cam footage.

The man suffered a wound to his leg which required hospital treatment, a spokesperson for Cleveland Police said. 

Officers are appealing to trace a man who approached the victim, who is described as being or larger build, with short, dark hair and around 5ft 8 or 5ft 9” tall, aged early to mid twenties and wearing a white top.
