A LORRY driver has been arrested following a serious crash on a main Darlington road this morning (Friday, April 29).

The incident happened shortly before 10.10am on Woodland Road, near the junction with Hollyhurst Road, and multiple emergency services were sent to the scene.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "The driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

"The road remains closed to allow collision investigators to work at the scene.

"We’d ask motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area and find an alternative route."
