NINE Extinction Rebellion activists will stand trial later this year after pleading not guilty to trespassing at an Amazon warehouse in the region.

The nine people are accused of aggravated trespass at the Amazon at Symmetry Park, in Darlington.

It follows a protest by the group outside the warehouse on November 26 last year, which was organised to coincide with Black Friday.

Nine people were charged with trespassing at the site between 4.55am and 6pm.

They pleaded not guilty and are set to stand trial in June.

The defendants are Hannah Crowther, 21, of Winnock Road, Yiewsley, Fiona Quekett, 22, of All Saints Villas Road, Cheltenham, Scarlett Rien, 30, of no fixed abode, Lydia Dibben, 23, of no fixed abode, Riley Ings, 24, of no fixed abode, William James, 24, of Fairfax Street, York, Katie Ritchie-Moulin, 22 of Prospect Road, Birmingham and Jessica Louise Maddison, 18, of no fixed abode.

A five-day trial is scheduled to start on Monday, June 13 at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court.

All nine defendants have been remanded on conditional bail.

They are not permitted to enter any land or business premises owned or operated by Amazon.

Charges against a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were dropped at a previous hearing.
