ENGINEERS continue to work to repair a damaged pipe in a popular seaside town.
The pipe was damaged by contractors working on behalf of the local council at the Cat Nab car park in Saltburn last week, causing sewage to spill into the sea.
Northumbrian Water has built a mini treatment works at the site, to help even further minimise the impact on the environment, while the repair on the pipe takes place.

The bespoke treatment works setup, which has been built from scratch in the car park area, will see as much of the spill as possible pumped to three large storage tanks, capable of holding up to 280,000 litres of wastewater, before treating it and releasing it back to the environment.

The temporary treatment works facility will be in place for the duration of the repair, which is a complicated fix and expected to continue throughout this week.
Northumbrian Water previously said the repair work was a "priority".
The damaged pipe is spilling through the ground into Skelton Beck, mixing with the water and becoming diluted. This is then being washed into the sea, adding significant further levels of dilution.
Northumbrian Water said it is working closely with the Environment Agency and Redcar and Cleveland Council.
Tankering is continuing to remove some of the contents of the pipe.
The local authority has closed the car park and put up a barrier and signage warning the public to stay away from that section of the beach.

A council presence will remain in the area to support and advise the public.
The measures will be in place until the pipe is fixed and until then the council are asking residents and visitors to keep out of the water that runs from Skelton Beck to the sea at Saltburn.
