AN investigation has been launched after a suspected arson in a County Durham village at the end of last month left a Range Rover partly destroyed and the front of a property charred damaged by fire.

Officers from Durham Constabulary are looking into the factors surrounding the incident, which saw the high-end vehicle set alight on Surrey Place, Willington at around 4am on January 31.

Due to high winds on the evening of the alleged arson attack, the fire spread to the front door of the property, according to the emergency services who responded to the incident.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the arson attack, and the occupants of the property have since moved out.

After carrying out initial enquiries, a joint investigation between County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and Durham Constabulary is now underway.

A man was seen on CCTV driving a silver estate-style car at the time of the incident and officers want to hear from anyone else who might have information or any other CCTV.

If anyone has any information that could help the emergency services with their enquiries, they are asked to contact PC Stephen Cattin by calling 101, extension 202985, or by emailing Stephen.cattin@durham.police.uk.
