POLICE are investigating an incident in which a cyclist reported being knocked from his bike in Thornaby.

The incident happened on Trenchard Avenue/Shackleton Close at around 12.05am yesterday (Sunday).

Officers believe a verbal altercation took place involving the occupants of a white car, possibly a Vauxhall Vectra, and another man, with the cyclist (a man aged in his forties) then injured in a seemingly unprovoked assault.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with this incident.

He was found with a head injury following a report of a disturbance at a property on Princess Square in Thornaby at around 3am on Sunday morning and he remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Detectives are also appealing for information on how the man may have been injured, or anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident in Trenchard Avenue/Shackleton Close and the incident in Princess Square to come forward on 101, quoting 171695.
