THE North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner has welcomed the latest set of recruits to North Yorkshire police after they were sworn in at the force's headquarters.

Phillip Allott joined Chief Constable Lisa Winward and the new student officers t Alverton Court in Northallerton as they started their policing career.

As a result of the new recruits, there are now 1,510 officers and 217 police community support officers, 116 special constables and 194 police volunteers working across North Yorkshire Police, which is the largest the force has been in recent years.

Mr Allott said: "I welcome these new student officers to North Yorkshire Police and look forward to following their journey as they take up their important role serving the public and keeping North Yorkshire and York safe and feeling safe.

“The increase in number of officers, PCSOs, specials and volunteers across the force is positive and it means more visible policing across our communities. We need to see more of this in the years ahead."
