CHICKEN fans now have another venue to choose from as a brand new restaurant has just opened in the Metrocentre.

The US-born brand Slim Chickens officially opened its doors to the public on Thursday after months in the planning.

The firm, which has just 13 other restaurants in the UK, saw more than 80 diners seated within the first 30 minutes of opening as queus formed.

A soft-opening from the night before had also seen large queues as many were desperate to try the new brand, which is new to the region.

Located in the upper 'Qube' mall, the restaurant has taken over the site adjacent to Five Guys and opposite Buffet King Metro.

The chain serves up cooked-to-order premium chicken, sides and sauces - with signature chicken dishes and selection of more than a dozen dips.

A spokesperson said demand had proven popular as many queued at pre-opening, and at today's official opening in a bid to experience its "Southern US hospitality."

Revealing what dishes were proving popular already, they said: "Diners proved the brand’s signature buttermilk-marinated chicken was the winning choice, along with house specialties such as crispy tenders and their huge selection of 15 dipping sauces.

"These include Slim’s signature sauces, Blue Cheese, Ranch, Honey BBQ, Sriracha Garlic and the fiery Inferno – with serious heat.

"Just as popular were the Slim’s fresh chicken sandwiches, wings, salads, wraps and sides such as fried pickles and mac’n’cheese.

"Hand-spun shakes in flavours such as Oreo, popcorn and caramel flew out the door, while Slims’ IPA and unique Corn Star Martini and Whiskey Smash cocktails proved to be a big hit.

"Alongside smooth sounds of blues music in the background, diners were also treated to live screenings of US sports."

Around 50 jobs have been created as part of the restaurant's opening with roles across the business, which the firm said also provides an opportunity for career progression.
