HIGHWAYS England have announced on twitter that they are planning to resurface a major North Yorkshire A -road after an offal spill.

The motorway maintenance company announced earlier today that they had closed two lanes on the Northbound exit of the A1M at junction 53 at Scotch Corner due to an offal spill.

They announced that they had “worked through the night to try and clean it up”, however, the road still remained slippery and not safe to travel on.

Later they said that their only option now was to resurface the area, which would be organised as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "Anyone travelling to Cumbria or the Lake District please plan ahead as lane closures are likely to be in place for most of today."
