A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Thornaby on Friday.

Police were called to a report of a man seriously injured inside a silver BMW on Trenchard Avenue at around 2.20pm on Friday.

Police and paramedics attended but the man, named as James Stokoe, 40, of Stockton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cleveland Police have confirmed a man in his 30s has now been arrested on suspicion of Mr Stokoe’s murder.

Mr Stokoe’s family shared a tribute to him, saying: “James was a much loved husband, father, son and son-in-law. He was a treasured friend to so many people.

“James was a wonderfully kind and gentle person. There are no words to express our sadness.”

Specialist officers are supporting his family.

Cleveland Police is appealing for any person with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, which may assist the investigation in to the death of the victim, to make contact urgently on 101 - quoting reference 077823.
