A DARLINGTON great-grandmother will air across the nation's TV screens as she appears in a supermarket advert on Monday.

Jean Jones, who starred in an advert campaign for Aldi several years ago, will make her return appearance during the Coronation Street ad breaks this evening.

Ms Jones appeared on televisions across the country in 2011 where she famously declared her favourite tipple, before becoming a TV 'sensation' online.

At the time, Ms Jones originally from Middlesbrough, appeared in the advert where she spoke about how her husband preferred Aldi tea - but that she preferred gin.

However, in the supermarket's latest set of adverts, the 91-year-old will once again declare her love for gin, and what she likes about shopping at Aldi on ITV at 7.45pm.

Sean McGinty, Marketing Director at Aldi UK, said: “We know that once customers try our great range of award-winning products at amazing prices they fall in love with Aldi.

"The Like campaign uses Aldi’s well-known sense of humour and one of our much-loved characters to say, ‘come on, try it for yourself. You might just like it’.”

Last week, The Northern Echo reported on the kind act of a stranger who offered to pay the bill of a 10-year-old after his pre-paid debit card declined.
