TWO men have been arrested after a fight outside a Chinese takeaway last night.

At 10.42pm last night police received a report that a 44-year-old man had been assaulted outside the takeaway on Gateshead High Street.

The victim had been in the takeaway when he got into an altercation with two men. They all left the premises and the victim was assaulted with a broken bottle.

Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries to his abdomen.

The men responsible for the assault left the scene and enquiries to identify them are ongoing.

Two men – aged 22 and 24 – have been arrested and detectives in Northumbria Police's Central CID are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They want to speak to anyone who may have seen the altercation or anyone who may have information about those involved.
