A GIANT portrait of Carry On star Hattie Jaques is to be auctioned in the region next week.
Actor and writer Chris Foote Wood bought the painting in September last year when the Northumberland theatre in which it was hanging underwent a refurbishment.
Mr Foote Wood bought the picture before he met and subsequently married Joan Rooke.
The couple are now planning to move into a house in Eggleston, near Barnard Castle – and there is no room for the 4ft by 6ft portrait.
Mr Foote Wood said: “I’m very sorry to lose her, but I’m afraid there’s no room for Hattie and she has to go.”
The portrait will be sold at Thomas Watson Auctioneers in Darlington next Tuesday, March 26. The sale starts at 10am.
