AN international horse and donkey charity will host a free event at a North-East museum.

The event at Beamish, the Living Museum of the North, on Thursday, March 14, will highlight the work that Brooke is doing around the world to bring lasting change to the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules supporting some of the world’s poorest communities.

As well as talks from Brooke staff, the day will include a visit to the museum’s onsite colliery where there will be a talk on the historic role of pit ponies and guests will have the chance to meet the pit ponies and find out about their role in the region’s mining history.

Whilst working pit ponies are a thing of the past in the UK, unfortunately thousands of donkeys are still enduring these tough conditions across South Asia today.

Guests will also have the opportunity to view Brooke’s virtual reality film, captured within a brick kiln in Pakistan. The film gives a strong insight into what life is like for animals and humans working in brick kilns and shows why it’s so important for Brooke to raise awareness at events such as this.

The event will take place over the course of two sessions – morning and afternoon. – and guests will have full access to the rest of the living, working museum before or after, depending on which session they can come to.

This event is organised by Brooke’s legacies team and guests will have the chance to learn about the value of gifts in wills. Tickets are free but limited. To reserve a place, email legacies@thebrooke.org or call 020-7470-9343.
