Spectators gathered to enjoy a popular steeple chase in the sun as the event approaches 76 years in operation.

People from across the North East made their way to Hornby Castle in Bedale today (April 9) to enjoy the annual Bedale Point to Point races.

Many could be spotted bathing in the bright sun while taking in the sights at the event and enjoying the show.

Meanwhile, other visitors had dressed for the occassion, while a number of spectators had arrived with their furry pals in tow.

As hundreds of fans and punters looked on in anticipation, the event began in earnest as the horses left their marks.
