A woman from Darlington and a man from Redcar have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man suffered multiple stab wounds.

The alleged attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Grangetown and the victim remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Birchington Avenue was cordoned off by police and forensic crime scene investigators searched the area for evidence.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident in Grangetown on March 31.

"The incident happened at 12.30am in Birchington Avenue when a man sustained stab wounds and was taken to James Cook Hospital.

"The victim remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
