THE reopening of a Post Office in Shildon has been described as a “god-send” after reconnecting residents from the town to vital services for the first time in four years, while also offering 90 hours a week of key postal features.

After closing temporarily in June 2018, due to the resignation of the postmaster, the store, located at 36 Redworth Road, made a triumphant return yesterday (February 16) after the branch and Post Office re-opened under new management.

The reopening of the key service in the town now means that locals don’t have to travel a little further down the road to Bishop Auckland or the second Post Office branch in Shildon.

Alongside the resurrection of the postal offering it has, the newly branded ‘Shildon Store’ will now run as a Premier Express convenience shop, and offer household items, papers, confectionary and small food items.

Meanwhile, the Post Office will offer postage, stamp sales and a wide range of other services.
