BRITAIN has seen the first significant snowfall of winter, with an overnight flurry causing early morning disruption.
In the North-East, snowfall has created hazardous driving conditions.
Durham Road Policing Unit posted this picture to twitter on Wednesday morning and said: "Please take care this morning, already a number of RTC's being reported. Currently A688 towards Barnard Castle."
On the A67 a car has left the road before coming to rest in a ditch on the route to Barnard Castle.
On the A1(M) near Leeming Bar heavy snow is being reported and motorists are advised to approach the area with care.
Durham County Council said on Wednesday morning: "Gritters have been out salting priority roads across the county since 4am."
Highways England has issued a severe weather alert, urging motorists in the North of England and the Midlands to check conditions before setting out and ensure they have a winter kit in their vehicles.
Further south, Surrey Police officers tweeted a picture of a car which collided with a "Drive carefully through roadworks" sign at the beginning of the M3.
The officers posted "Sometimes you just can't make it up!! Single vehicle collision #drivetotheconditions."
