TANE TU’IPULOTU has warned Saracens to expect their 100 per cent start to the season to come to a shuddering end when they visit Kingston Park tomorrow.

Saracens’ new-look side are currently top of the Guinness Premiership, while Newcastle Falcons are still searching for their first win of the season after drawing three of their opening four matches.

The statistics point towards a comfortable away win, but Tu’ipulotu claims Falcons are ready to turn the form book on its head.

“Saracens have a proud record of four wins from four, but records are there to be broken,” said the Tongan centre.

“We did it to Northampton last year when they were about to go two years unbeaten at home.

“We crashed the party that day, and Saracens had better watch themselves here this weekend because they’re playing against a very proud Falcons team at Kingston Park.

“I feel as if I’ve got a great bunch of boys alongside me here at Newcastle, we’re all about winning games and we’re not scared of anyone.”

Nevertheless, Falcons will have to produce a marked improvement from the secondhalf display that saw them throw away an 11-point advantage before drawing 17-17 with Harlequins last weekend.

Newcastle conceded a succession of unnecessary penalties in that game, and director of rugby Steve Bates has spent the majority of this week trying to stamp out the indiscipline that has been evident in the Falcons’ game all season.

“There’s been a lot of talk this week about discipline,”

said Tu’ipulotu. “Saracens have excellent goal kickers like Glen Jackson and Derick Hougaard in their squad.”

“A major part of our focus this week is not repeating our mistakes of last Friday against Harlequins, when we gave away a lot of penalties and allowed them back into the game.

“We need to cut out those individual errors and become a disciplined team, because our defence is solid enough to help us win games without the need to infringe. Our defence has been a big part of our game, and nowadays teams are finding it hard to score tries against us.”

Falcons have made two changes to their starting lineup.

Skipper Carl Hayman returns after missing the Harlequins match, while Ed Williamson is in the back row after recovering from illness.

“Saracens have a very powerful pack and an excellent kick-chase game, so there will be a massive emphasis on playing in the right areas,”

said Bates.
