DUAL-CODE Lions international Alan Tait has quit his coaching role with Scotland to rejoin Newcastle Falcons.

The former centre will focus on defence as well as skills and back line coaching, and Director of Rugby Steve Bates said: gAlan is someone with a tremendous knowledge of the game, both from a playing and coaching perspective.

I see him as a vital part of our plans.

gHaving been an outstanding success at both league and union as a player he has transferred that to the coaching arena at international level. He was involved in this seasonfs Calcutta Cup victory over England.

gAlan will look at our defence in a very specialist manner. This is an area where I believe we have needed real expert help due to the number of tries we have leaked.h A Premiership winner as a player with Newcastle in 1998, Tait was the first Scottish cap to leave for rugby league and return to the union national team.

Announcing his return to Kingston Park following Scotlandfs June tour to Argentina, he said: gMy attitude as a coach is very similar to what motivated me as a player. I want to be the best. I want to make it clear Ifm not moving for money.h Blaydon winger Andrew Fenby has been called into the England Counties XV for their three-match tour to the USA and Canada from June 2-16.

The 22-year-old Newcastle University student comes into the 26-man squad as replacement for Cornwallfs Matt Jess from Launceston, who has signed for Exeter.

Fenby finished the season with 21 tries from 23 games with Blaydon and also scored six in one game for the Newcastle Falcons Development XV against Rotherham.

He will be joined on the tour by Newcastle and Tynedale pair, prop Jonny Williams and fly half Gavin Beasley, who will both be playing for Northumberland in the County Championship Shield final against Cornwall at Twickenham on Sunday.

Back row pair Andrew Murray (Tynedale) and Jason Smithson (Blaydon) return after missing the North Midlands game.

The match is to kick off at 10am and will be followed by the Bill Beaumont Cup final between Yorkshire and Devon.
