Newcastle Falcons will have an eye on Twickenham next Tuesday, as prop Oliver Tomaszczyk takes part in the Varsity Match.

The 20-year-old former England Schools international starts at loose head for Oxford University against Cambridge, earning a Blue in his first year.

Tomaszczyk, who featured for the Falcons Development XV before leaving for university this autumn, lines up for the Dark Blues in the same side as Wallaby World Cup winner, Joe Roff.

Falcons' Director of Rugby, John Fletcher, said: "It's a great honour for Ollie to play in the Varsity match, and we're all delighted for him.

"He is a smashing lad and a promising player who trained with us all summer before heading to Oxford, and we wish him all the best.

"Ollie is part of our senior academy, and we will continue to work with him throughout his education as he looks to fulfil his considerable potential."

Tomaszczyk, who spent a season with Club Atletico Lomas in Argentina, is not the only Falcon with Varsity Match connections, with current first team flanker Ben Woods having won a Blue for Cambridge.

* The Barclays Churchill Cup, the annual international tournament which represents an alliance between the Rugby Football Union, Rugby Canada and USA Rugby, will be staged for the first time in England next summer.

The tournament, now in its fifth year, has previously been staged in Canada and USA, and will return to North America in 2008 and 2009 as part of a longer term strategy announced yesterday.

The venues for the 2007 Barclays Churchill Cup will be announced shortly.

The tournament will be staged from the weekend of May 19 to Saturday June 2. All matches will be broadcast by Sky Sports and made available to North American markets through ESPN and other partners.
