CHIP shop supremo Brian Hall has served up a treat for grassroots football coaches by funding new winter jackets.

Mr Hall, 85, made the generous donation to ensure the coaches at Bedale Junior Football Club are visible and warm on the touchlines.

Mr Hall, a keen sportsman in his youth, said: “When I was younger I enjoyed playing sport and so I like to give something back.

“We have some great facilities in Bedale and it’s good to see youngsters playing football, cricket and other sports rather than being stuck indoors.”

Brian’s father, Henry Hall, established Halls fish and chip shop in the town in 1934 in a building shared with a gentleman’s outfitters.

Brian worked at the shop as a schoolboy and took over the business with his late wife Margaret, expanding it to open up a café.

Bedale JFC chairman Alan Moodie said: “The Hall family are great supporters of this club and this is a very generous gesture by Brian. We are run entirely by volunteers and wouldn’t exist without the support of the local community.”
