Shildon twice came from behind to go through to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase against neighbours Newton Aycliffe by 3-2 at Dean Street.

Aycliffe took the lead after 8 minutes when Elliott Gardner scored with a glancing header from a left wing corner, and looking sharper, they could have added more before half time.

However, Shildon improved in the second half and levelled when Chris Hughes crossed for Wayne Gredziak to score with a diving header on 79 minutes.

Ben Wood fired Aycliffe back into the lead on 104 minutes, but straight from the restart Warren Byrne scored from the spot after Chris McCabe was fouled And McCabe got the winner in the 111th minute when he fired into the bottom corner. Aycliffe manager Alan Oliver said: "I thought Shildon just about shaded it. We had a couple of great chances in the first half, but we weren't clinical enough in front of goal. But I'd be more worried if we weren't creating chances." Striker Andy Appleby, recently sigend from Crook, has told Oliver that he isn't available for the immediate future.

Shildon manager Gary Forrest said: "I thought we finished the 90 minutes the better side, and in extra time we managed to get into our stride. It was one way traffic in extra time."

In the STL Northern League first division, Spennymoor stuttered against Stokesley, the division’s bottom club, before winning 5-1. Sam Garvie and Jamie Harwood gave Moors a two goal lead, before Greg Upton pulled a goal back for Stokesley, who then missed some good chances to equalise.

However, new signing Gavin Barton made it 3-1 just after half time, with Gavin Cogdon and Calvin Smith scoring the others. Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley said: "In the first half, we were nowhere near the standards we expect at this football club!. We just thought we had to turn up and stroll through the game. Second half we scored three and on another night it could of been a lot more. I was happy with the response we got after having a right go at them at half time and we scored some good goals. It was pleasing to see Gavin Barton get off the mark on his debut."

Billingham Town held their own at Bedlington until the 80th minute, when Mark Convery scored direct from a free kick, and then former Darlington player Convery scored the second from a rebound after a shot by Dean Douglas was blocked. Town manager Carl Jarrett said: "We worked hard all game and they caused us no problems until the referee helped them out. I was proud of our workrate tonight, and we were much tighter at the back with new signing Richie Gaston in there."

In the second division, Darlington RA regained top spot when they beat Whickham 1-0 at Brinkburn Road. Tom Ptak hit the post for RA in the first half, and Paul Freary scored the only goal when he beat two men and fired home six minutes after half time. Manager Nick Harrison said: "That was our best performance of the season, we were solid all over the pitch. We should have won by more."

Easington’s Luke Wilson scored a late equaliser at North Shields to earn a point in a 2-2 draw. James Luccock (2) and Dean Holmes (79) in turn put Shields ahead, with Craig Ellison (40) scoring the first equaliser. Easington manager Andy Colledge said: "Our team spirit is our twelfth man. In all my time at Easington, I've never been in a better changing room. Our workrate was first class, and that's what got us the point."

North Shields manager Anthony Woodhouse said: "I thought we deserved all three points becasue they didn't create anything in open play, only from free kicks. "

Washington won for the first time in five games, beating Ryton 3-2. Graham Carter and Marty Roper put them 2-0 up, and after Robbie Blemmings pulled a goal back, John Wear made it 3-1 on the hour. Scott Palmer scored a late goal for Ryton. Washington manager Richie Latimer said: "It was another hit and miss game, but we got stuck in and got the result we wanted, which was very important for us." Ryton manager Dave Hagan said: "We're in control of games and then conceding from nothing, normally from our mistakes. I'm pulling my hair out with the number of goals we're conceding."

Hebburn missed a chance to go third when they were beaten 2-1 at Morpeth. Hebburn manager Paul Bennett said: "I was disgusted at the level of performance from the players. Morpeth outfought us, and the players have been left in no doubt how we feel."
