Whitley Bay manager Ian Chandler says that their main target will be a clean sheet in the second leg of their FA Carlsberg Vase semi final today.

Whitley will reach their third successive Vase final and complete a north east Wembley weekend if they hold on to their precious one goal lead from their dramatic 2-1 win at Poole last weekend.

“We’ll be setting little targets before the game,” he said. “And one of those will be to keep a clean sheet. The main aim will be to keep the game tight until half time, and then take it from there.

“The players know that they played badly last week, even though we won. They are very keen to put things right and show the true Whitley Bay.

“Personally, I didn’t know what to feel like after the game last Saturday. We won the game, but we didn’t play anywhere near well enough, which is worrying.

“But on the other hand, if we play half as well as we can, I don’t think there’ll be an issue. We will prepare properly, but our first priority will be to keep a clean sheet. It’s a tricky game in terms of the way we approach it. At the moment we can pick all sorts of teams and there various things to consider.

“But we feel confident. We’re at home for the second leg, we’re 2-1 up, and we’re in our fourth semi final in a row. If we can’t see our way through, then we don’t deserve to win.”
