Newcastle Benfield striker John Campbell is on the point of signing for Conference side Darlington.
Campbell, who has scored 25 goals in the Northern League this season, is understood to be signing an 18 month deal at the Northern Echo Arena before the transfer window closes on Monday night – he is on contract at the Northern League club and so everything will need to be registered by tomorrow night after the final details are agreed.
Campbell, who had a spell as a YTS at Manchester City, has been chased by several clubs recently. He scored a hat trick in a trial game at Swindon, and was also offered a contract after he played for Leyton Orient reserves against Spurs. Quakers made their move after watching him play for Benfield against Shildon last week.
