Shildon’s thrilling extra time win over Tadcaster Albion on Wednesday night means that there are seven Northern League clubs through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, with five of them facing Evostik League clubs. Thackley are in the Northern Counties East League, while Workington are flying high in the Blue Square North.
The darw as it affects north east clubs is: Frickley v Newcastle Benfield, Norton v Leigh Genesis, Vauxhall Motors v Blyth, Dunston v Mossley, Ashington v Thackley, Nantwich v Whitley Bay, Shildon v Skelmersdale, Workington v West Auckland.
Gateshead and Darlington come into the competition at the fourth qualifying round stage.
Out of 19 FA Cup ties played against Northern Counties East League clubs, Northern league sides have come out on top in ten of them, and drawn five. NL clubs have also played five games against Evostik League clubs, and won four. Can they maintain that healthy record in the next round?
