Newton Aycliffe picked up three points in the ENL First Division at Thornaby thanks to a late winner.
There wasn’t much in the game until early in the second half when Aycliffe were awarded a penalty that Gez Richardson converted.
Thornaby hit back to equalise through Liam Cooke, but with two minutes left, Dean Thexton burst away and fired past the Thornaby keeper.
Thornaby striker Ian Ward was sent off for two yellows in stoppage time.
In the second division, Chester-le-Street were beaten 4-3 at home by newcomers Sunderland West End.
In the BetVictor League, Dunston won their first game in the North West Division by beating Ossett United thanks to a goal by Luke Page.
In the Premier Division, Morpeth scored twice in the last two minutes to beat Lancaster City 3-2, while South Shields comfortably beat Ashton United 3-0.
