Easington have been told that they must have their floodlights in full working order – or face a heavy fine.

The club has started its third spell in the EBAC Northern League, and its first midweek game against Crook Town three weeks ago had to be abandoned because the floodlights failed late in the second half.

In its previous spell in the league, the club had several problems with its lights, and it appears that the same problem has come back to haunt them.

Northern League chairman Mike Amos admitted afterwards that he wasn’t happy with the situation, especially as a crowd of over 200 had turned up for the Crook game. The referee had no choice other than to call the game off, much to everyone’s embarrassment.

A league statement said; “The Chairman had received assurances from Easington Colliery following the abandonment of their home fixture against Crook Town that a generator would be hired in for each home game of the current season.

“Concerns remain however over other aspects of the floodlighting at the ground and the club have been reminded that they must have fully functioning floodlights in place by 30th September 2015 in accordance with FA requirements for their promotion from the Wearside league. “ Heaton Stannington had the same problem two years ago, and they were fined by the league until their floodlights were working, and also warned that their membership could be on jeopardy.
