North Shields moved into fourth place in the ENL First Division last night with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Sunderland RCA.
After a goalless first half, Shields took command with goals by Denver Morris, Kieran Wrightson and Dean Holmes after half time..
In the second division, Heaton Stannington came from behind to beat Whickham 2-1. Steven Aiston gave Whickham the lead, but Lee Johnson and debutant Dan Taggart hit back for Heaton.
In the Ernest Armstrong Cup, Norton beat Ryhope CW 4-0. Nicky Martin gave Norton the lead with a header after 8 minutes, then he broke away and scored the second on 31 minutes. Oliver Smith and Steven Barker scored further goals in the space of three minutes in the second half Willington lost 2-1 at home to Chester-le-Street. Scott Heslop and John Honour scoring for Chester before Aiden Goodey scored from the spot in the last minute for Willington.
Brandon lost 2-1 at home to Team Northumbria.
Esh Winning lost 2-0 at home to Hebburn, for whom Craig Malley and Paul McIntosh scored.
