Marske United moved four points away from the ENL First division relegation zone with a single goal victory over second placed West Auckland at Mount Pleasant last night.

Marske gave four teenagers their debuts, but they rose to the occasion and got the winner on 37 minutes when Chris McGill, making his 100th appearance, fired home right footed. West had defender Andrew Green dismissed for violent conduct near the end Consett’s new signing Aristote Guerin-Lokonga scored both his side’s goals in the first half in their 2-1 away win at Penrith for whom Wayne Davidson scored near the end. Penrith remain fourth bottom.

Bedlington beat Guisborough 1-0 with a late goal by Paul Brayson.

In the second division, Ryhope CW, whose ground has failed an inspection which means that they could miss out on promotion, beat Jarrow Roofing 1-0 with an early penalty by Jonny Butler.

Seaham kept their promotion campaign on course with a 2-1 away win at Washington. Channon North put them in front early on, and even though Lee Hamilton equalised on 10 minutes, Craig Malley scored what turned out to be the winner on 16 minutes.

North Shields moved up to fifth with a 2-1 away win at fellow promotion challengers Morpeth, Dean Holmes scoring the winner with the last kick of the game.
