SUNDERLAND will start the new League One season with a home game against Wigan Athletic.

Lee Johnson's side will have an immediate reunion with former skipper Max Power, who rejoined Wigan earlier this week.

After hosting the Latics on August 7, the Black Cats will tackle back-to-back away matches against MK Dons and Burton.

August then ends with successive home games against AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe.

Sunderland are on the road of Boxing Day, travelling to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Doncaster, but will host Sheffield Wednesday between Christmas and New Year on December 29.

Their first game of 2022 will see them host Fleetwood Town on New Year's Day, and they are also at home on Good Friday, hosting Shrewsbury.

Easter Monday will see Sunderland make the long trek to Plymouth, while the club's final home game of the season will see them host Cambridge on April 23.

The season ends with a trip to Morecambe on April 30.
