BARRY Robson is in contention for a surprise start when Scotland play their most important game for more than four years tomorrow evening.

Scotland travel to Alicante to face Spain in their final European Championships qualifier knowing they must match whatever the Czech Republic do in Lithuania if they are to claim a play-off place for finishing second in Group I.

Middlesbrough midfielder Robson was an unused substitute as Scotland scraped a 1-0 win in Liechtenstein on Saturday evening, but with Barry Bannan and Charlie Adam both having suffered injuries in Vaduz, Craig Levein will be forced into a midfield reshuffle tomorrow.

Bannan in particular is unlikely to make it, and while Celtic's James Forrest was Levein's preferred replacement at the weekend, the Scotland boss could prefer the more experienced Robson as his side look to spring a surprise against the reigning world and European champions.

"Barry has a gash on his heel and was uncomfortable this morning," said Levein. "It is a really awkward area

"The doctor had to put some glue on it to hold it together. He is doubtful. There are quite a few niggles, but we will get a clearer picture (later today)."
