SWANSEA boss Brendan Rogers will make a summer move for Middlesbrough winger Marvin Emnes following the Welsh club’s promotion to the Premier League.

The Swans yesterday ended a 30-year exile from the top-flight when they beat Reading 4-2 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

The victory is worth around £90m in prize money and parachute payments, and Rogers will attempt to prise loanee Fabio Borini from Chelsea.

However, the Blues are expected to hold on to the youngster so Rodgers will turn to Emnes. Tony Mowbray is keen to keep the Dutchman, but Swansea’s new-found spending power could force Boro’s hand.

Rogers is an avid admirer of Emnes, having worked with the 23-year-old during his month on loan at the Liberty Stadium this season.

Had Gordon Strachan retained his position as Boro manager last autumn, Emnes would almost certainly have been sold during January.

At the time, the winger, a £3.2m signing from Sparta Rotterdam in 2008, expressed a desire to move to Wales.

However, Mowbray demanded his return, and he scored three goals in 18 starts as he became an increasingly influential presence.

Mowbray spelled out a desire to keep Emnes when Swansea made preliminary contact this month, but given a pressing need to either raise funds or reduce the wage bill this summer, his stance could alter if the Swans were to return with an offer of £3-4m.
