TOTTENHAM will make a final attempt to sign Andy Carroll today – and are prepared to include Roman Pavlyuchenko in a deadline-day deal for Newcastle's leading goalscorer. But having turned down a £23m offer for Carroll towards the end of last week, Magpies owner Mike Ashley is expected to rebuff yet another approach from White Hart Lane. Newcastle officials will confirm the loan signing of Stephen Ireland this morning, with the Aston Villa midfielder having completed a medical on Tyneside yesterday afternoon. Ireland is expected to be the only player arriving today, despite an ongoing interest in Birmingham's Seb Larsson and Southampton's Jason Puncheon, although there should be more good news with confirmation of a new deal for Joey Barton. However, it is Carroll's future that will dominate discussions, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp determined to make one more push for the England international despite having been repeatedly told that he is not for sale. With Robbie Keane having completed a loan move to West Ham, Redknapp is keen to bolster his attacking options as he prepares to compete at home and abroad in the final four months of the season. He has coveted Carroll all campaign, and hoped to force Newcastle's hand with the submission of a formal £23m offer, a large proportion of which would have been paid up front, last week. That was immediately turned down, but Redknapp is prepared to include Pavlyuchenko in a final bid today. Sources in London claim Spurs will offer around £18m, plus the Russia international, who is valued at around £10m. Pavlyuchenko's arrival would cushion the blow of Carroll's exit, with the 29-year-old having scored nine goals in all competitions this season. However, having promised not to sell Carroll when he appointed Pardew last month, Ashley's determination to live up to his word is steadfast. It would require a major U-turn to dispense with the Gateshead-born striker's services now, and such a radical move on the final day of the window is not anticipated. Liverpool could yet emerge as surprise last-minute suitors if Fernando Torres completes a £30m-plus move to Chelsea. Anfield director of football Damien Comolli is a known admirer of Carroll, and while Liverpool spent £24m on Luis Suarez last week, Torres' departure would lead to a frantic search for a replacement. Carroll, who travelled to Sweden last Friday to consult a tendon specialist on his thigh injury, would undoubtedly be one of the forwards under consideration, but it is hard to imagine such a high-profile deal being agreed and completed in time. That will be music to Pardew's ears, as the Newcastle boss has consistently expressed his confidence at Carroll's retention this month. Pardew has also spent most of January predicting at least a couple of additions to the squad, and one was all but completed yesterday. Ireland will join on loan until the end of the season, and while there is unlikely to be a formal agreement with Villa over a permanent deal in the summer, it is understood one could be forthcoming if all parties agree. Ireland has barely featured in Gerard Houllier's plans since the Frenchman arrived at Villa Park in September. He has made just six Premier League starts all season, with his most recent appearance coming in Villa's 3-0 defeat at Liverpool at the start of last month. The 24-year-old has spent most of his career playing in a central midfield position, but with Wayne Routledge having moved to QPR on loan earlier this month, he will also provide valuable cover on the right flank. He will be available to make his Newcastle debut in Wednesday's Premier Legaue game at Fulham. Larsson is unlikely to be in the Magpies squad for that game, but having failed to agree a new contract with Birmingham, the Swede could be available for around £1.5m. Pardew has been pondering a move for Jamie O'Hara, but the Tottenham midfielder is expected to join Wolves until the end of the campaign. One player is expected to leave today, with Spanish misfit Xisco have travelled to Deportivo La Coruna yesterday to undergo a medical. As well as dealing with transfer issues, the Newcastle boss has also been engaged in contract talks with Barton, who is expected to sign a new contract later today. Once that is out of the way, Pardew will turn his attention to Jose Enrique, who has also entered the final 18 months of his existing deal. “We are continuing to talk to Joey and things are progressing there,” said Pardew. “We hope to be able to get something finalised sooner rather than later. “We haven't started negotiating with Jose yet, but I want to keep him. He has been superb for me since I got here and he is an excellent player. We will start to talk to him in due course because he is an important part of what we are building here. He's been very impressive.”
